New Dairy Newsletter Provides NNY Farmers with Timely Topics and
Event Notices
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties
has recently published the third edition of the Regional Dairy
Newsletter for eastern NNY. The monthly newsletter is distributed to
approximately 300 dairy farms and 100 agribusinesses in Clinton, Essex
and Franklin counties.
Regional Dairy Specialist Emily Myers created and edits the newsletter.
She says, “The newsletter is a relatively short, easy-to-read update on
hot topics in the dairy industry as well as notice of programs of
agricultural interest, such as the Northern NY Dairy Institute and dairy
management workshops.”
Articles in the February 2010 issue address down cows, and managing
starlings as barn nuisances, the basics of fatty acids in dairy cow
rations. Articles are written by Cornell Cooperative Extension
educators, W.H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute staff an
agribusinesses.
Upcoming events include the February 17 Crop Congress at Miner
Institute, a farm labor management class, a corn planter calibration
meeting, and a financial management and bookkeeping course.
Area farms and businesses support the eastern NNY Regional Dairy
Newsletter with advertising and donations.
Cornell Cooperative Extension newsletters from across the six-county NNY
region are posted on the Northern New York Agricultural Development
Program website at
