Farm Disaster Preparation Certification Training

The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) associations of Northern New York are offering Extension’s Farm Disaster Preparation Certificate workshops to help farmers prevent and prepare for accidents involving farm equipment on the road, on-farm fires or structure collapse, biosecurity, agricultural products storage, and wind or storm damage.

Forage Variety Trial Data Now Online

The New York Forage Legume and Grass Variety Yield Trials Summary for 2012 – Season Totals report includes data for more than 200 varieties of alfalfa, red clover, birdsfoot trefoil, and perennial forage grasses: timothy, orchardgrass, tall fescue, bromegrass, and perennial ryegrass.

It’s Ag Census Time! NNY Farmers – Be Counted!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will be mailing the 2012 Census of Agriculture forms to collect information on American farms, farmers and agricultural crops. The information is important to the agricultural industry, government and private program funders, commodity representatives, the media, and many others. Farms of all sizes are encouraged to complete the form – available online and in hard copy and file it or return it by mail by the February 4, 2013 deadline. More information is online at http://www.agcensus.usda.gov/index.php.

County Farm Bureaus receive Silver Key awards

The St. Lawrence County Farm Bureau was presented with six Silver Key Awards recently. Read more in this Daily Courier-Observer news story. The three farmers in the photo: Jon Greenwood, Kevin Acres and David Fisher are all members of the Northern New York Agricultural Development Program farmer-advisor committee.

The Jefferson County Farm Bureau received Silver Key Awards for excellence in local and state/national policy development and implementation, information and public relations, agricultural education and promotion, leadership development, membership, and young farmer programming.

The Lewis County Farm Bureau was recognized with Silver Key Awards for excellence in local and state/national policy development and implementation, information and public relations, agricultural education and promotion, leadership development, and membership.
