Alfalfa Snout Beetle Control Workshops Set for March 6, 14, 15

The Cornell Cooperative Extensions (CCE) of Northern New York will offer free hands-on trainings on the on-farm rearing and application of nematodes to control alfalfa snout beetle (ASB) in early March. The Northern New York Agricultural Development Program is providing funds for the workshops that will take place on March 6 in Copenhagen, March 14 in Malone, and March 15 in Canton. Each workshop will run from 10am to 2pm and include lunch.

Optimizing Forage Production with Legume/Grass Mixtures is the topic for Dr. Paul Peterson, University of Minnesota Extension Forage Specialist. Dr. Peterson’s most recent research has assessed the potential of mixtures of alfalfa with different perennial grass options.

Vegetable Specialist to Speak in Watertown & Plattsburgh; Register by Feb. 6

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) is bringing Cornell University Horticulture Professor Dr. Stephen Reiners to Northern New York for two workshops for commercial vegetable growers. This workshop is for both organic and conventional growers.

Dr. Reiners will present a workshop from 10am to 3pm on Tuesday, February 14 at CCE Jefferson County, 203 North Hamilton Street, Watertown, and on Wednesday, February 15 at CCE Clinton County, 6064 Route 22, Plattsburgh. Growers must register by February 6 with CCE Jefferson County at 315-788-8450 or Clinton County at 518-561-7450. The $25 fee includes lunch and a resource packet.

Beef Day for All of Northern NY February 11 in Malone

Malone, NY – The 2012 regional Northern NY Beef 101 Day will be Saturday, February 11th in Malone at the 911 Building.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Northern New York Livestock Team has organized this 10am-3pm one-day program for beginning beef producers from across the six northernmost counties of New York State (Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence).

Instructors will cover the basics of production, herd and health management, feeding programs and marketing.
